As the sun rises in Port Elizabeth’s established district of Mill Park, the Rhubarb & Lime Cafe awakens & the first trip to the nearby bakery is already complete. Ready for a day of serving customers their ciabatta and artisan made rye. The Rhubarb, as it’s affectionately known as by the locals, promises an experience of full plates and food styling skills.
With décor comprising of individually and locally sourced pieces, from vintage dressing tables up-cycled into usable furniture in the venue to indoor plants, an eclectic wall art featuring the Mexican artist, Frida Kielho’s self portrait. There is no shortage of inspiration and soul food in this venue. Whether it’s a Saturday morning brunch, a power business lunch or a casual cappuccino the Rhubarb & Lime Café has an area just for you.
From their bamboo-shaded courtyard, a street facing French bench and cosy lounge complete with two sofa’s striking monotone colour’s, you will feel home here for just about any occasion.
The menu, prepared by Head Chef and owner, Bergen Gill, who has trained under the esteemed Red Carnation Group in London and several other influential local chefs, offers moreish house regulars like ciabatta French toast drizzled with syrup and served with sizzling bacon, indulgent deli styled burgers, Moroccan inspired pita pockets and the good old favourite quiches.
The restaurant pride’s themselves on using locally grown produce and changes seasonally and enhances their menu on a regular basis.
