Raasoie Ethnic Indian Cuisine
The restaurant is located just a km from the Port Elizabeth airport and 4 kms from the beach front and casino. It is an old colonial style house with a timber ceiling, flooring & architrave of those memorable days. It is soberly decorated with an Indian touch & earthy colours.
Coming from Mumbai, India with its smells in every nook and cranny of the streets, Dheeren and his wife found it difficult to find a restaurant suitable to their exotic taste and vegetarian lifestyle. This was when Dheeren decided to open an Authentic Indian Restaurant in Port Elizabeth.
He opened “Celebration – The kitchen of India” in December 2005 in Newton Park. Within a year, with the genuine support of the community, they moved to Heugh Road with the new name “Raasoie – The kitchen of India. Raasoie means Kitchen in Hindi.
Curry dishes have a variety of tastes such as the milder Korma Chicken curry, the more zesty Roghan Josh and the hot Lamb Vinadaloo. These mouthwatering curries are served with naans flavoured with garlic or butter made in the in the traditional Tandoor clay oven on charcoal.
Starters like Tandoori Chicken and Chicken Tikka is also made in this oven. The food is prepared by experienced & qualified chefs from India and served with ethnic style in copper kadai, handis, tavis and baltis.
