For starters there is a daily choice of two soups of the day.  These will be served with a Baker’s Basket of fresh breads and rolls which the old kitchen previously lacked the capacity to bake in-house. Or opt for a selection of daily cold starters, and a choice of six crisp mixed salads from the Salad Bar.  Unlike the old salad bar, the new one also offers an option to ‘build your own salad’.  And for the diet conscious healthier options of salad dressings will now be available.

Another new addition is the permanent curry station.  At the Curry section a heady blend of traditional herbs and spices create the aromatic aromas and flavours of traditional Indian curries, all served with a variety sambals and pappadums.  Or for less of a bite, try a rich flavour-packed casserole.

For meat lovers the popular daily Carvery will continue to offer a choice of two succulent roasts each day, all served with traditional accompaniments. At the Stir Fry Station, the chef will fry up your selection of vegetables with beef, chicken or calamari, and for the health conscious there is the grill with an offering of chicken, beef and fish. All of this is served with a daily choice of eight garden fresh vegetable dishes.

The dessert bar remains, as always, the piece de resistance where diners can indulge their sweet tooth with an array of decadent desserts, from rich cakes to warm puddings, a selection of individual deserts and custards and three flavours of ice-creams.  Also an option is a cheese platter spread with biscuits.

The restaurant is a non-smoking facility for over 18s only and due that the restaurant is located inside the Casino, there is an 18 years of age and older restriction.

Brazen Head Port Elizabeth is housed in a lovely old building, and indoors it sticks to the Irish theme, guided by the outlines laid out by the Irish Pub Concept organisation which aims to provide a consistent level of authenticity in Irish pubs and restaurants across the world. The concept covers everything from the menu to the décor, and walking into the Port Elizabeth restaurant you will see it put into practise immediately.

The dark wood bar counter cohabits with old pictures hanging along the walls, amongst shelves of dusty books and ornaments. The ambience is cosy and aims for an olde charm.

The menu is varied and delicious with a broad selection of categories such as seafood, pies, curries and casseroles, grills, burgers, pastas and pub fare. If it’s an Irish experience you’re after though, make sure you try a traditional Irish boxty – a potato pancake wrap with spring onions, served with your choice of filling. You could also go for the legendary beef and Guinness pie. Top it off with an Irish Whiskey coffee.

The Port Elizabeth Brazen Head also has an outdoor area and the restaurant can be hired out for functions.
