Salt restaurant is a super relaxed eatery-cum-bar in one of Port Elizabeth’s oldest suburbs. The restaurant has an exceptionally large food menu which will appeal to all tastes, as well as a cocktail menu and wine list. Its warm and welcoming vibe, trendy setting and tasty food make it worth visiting.

Salt is located in Richmond Hill, a lovely suburb in the central part of Port Elizabeth. The neighbourhood is known for its old architecture such as Edwardian cottages and this is the kind of pretty environment the restaurant is set in. The restaurant itself boasts beautiful wooden floors and a warm colour pallet of soft yellow, wine red and black. Adding to the place’s ambience are the black and white portraits of icons like Che Guevara which bedeck the walls. The tables and chairs are light wood while the bar stools are comfy black swivel chairs.

One of the most notable things about Salt is the extraordinarily eclectic menu offering. You can order any number of food types from burgers and pizza, nachos, pasta and seafood to salads, curries, wraps, stacks and stir frys. Some of the most enticing items include the brie and fig gourmet burger, the Cajun chicken wrap and for the adventurous, the chilli chocolate steak.

Like the food menu, the wine list is extensive, as is the cocktail menu, which includes items like the Long Island Dragon Tail as well as jars and fishbowls for those in a festive mood. Overall it’s a laid back place perfect for a chilled after work drink and burger or lengthy weekend brunch or dinner.

Flava Restaurant is a homely, comfortable eatery in the heart of one of Port Elizabeth’s trendiest neighbourhoods, Richmond Hill. It is proudly owner-run, ensuring that diners get the best possible service and food made with love (and delicious fresh ingredients!). Flava is a simple eatery where quality is paramount to bells and whistles. Enjoy a range of menu options in a laid back environment which is as cosy in winter, as it is open and inviting in summer.

The menu offers the standard options of starters, mains and desserts, with scrumptious items like soup of the day and Moroccan calamari and soup of the day as starters. Mains which will attract your attention are the Flava burger served with Roquefort, bacon and Brie cream sauce; prosciutto-wrapped line fish with lemon butter and saffron aioloi, and hickory chicken medallions served in a walnut and stilton sauce.

While the food is tasty, it wouldn’t be as enjoyable if the restaurant itself wasn’t inviting. Luckily the restaurant’s open plan kitchen dining area ensure that the atmosphere is relaxed, making it the perfect place to enjoy a chilled evening out. The colour scheme employs warms tones like the burnt orange statement walls and the yellowy beige which holds it all together. A nice touch is the mirror mosaicking on the counter which divides the cooking area from the dining area.
